I just had a revelation

my humble cell phone
I just had a revelation while driving home as I pulled up in the driveway an owl (I think) flew across my path. What does that mean?

         —08/02/16  7:50:PM
I received this as a text from my sister Jeanne, but didn’t see it until the next day.

When I finally saw the message I called her right away. She explained that she had been driving that night and her mind was in turmoil. Her kids have all moved out and she was struggling with what to do in this new chapter of her life. She was listening to an NPR story about working with the elderly as she arrived at her house. This was something she had done for a few years out of college, and she had recently volunteered at a local assisted living facility where our aging parents had been living....

The car was stopped in the driveway as she listened to the conclusion of the radio report, when she was hit with a sudden revelation. She suddenly realized she needed to be working with the elderly!

It was at that moment an owl swooped down in front of her windshield and then landed on a nearby tree. She watched it for a while before it flew off. This was the first owl she had ever seen near this house, and she's been living there for over 23 years, and

I told her she really didn’t need me to answer what it might mean, and she agreed. She had sent that email in the minutes after seeing the owl.

Also of note:
Andrea and I were sitting together at the dining room table just about to start dinner, when I saw a big bird fly by just outside the window. It was a brownish gray and my immediate thought was that it was an owl. We ran outside and looked around the trees to see if it might have landed. We never saw anything. While we were looking our next door neighbor came out and asked if we had seen a big bird, because she heard something loud hit her picture window. She could tell by the noise it was a large.

After that we all looked around the trees, but never saw anything. This would have been about eight in the evening, closely matching the time stamp on the text from my sister.

transcript of a hypnosis session

I had a hypnosis session back in the summer of 2014. I wrote about this at the time, and that post is linked HERE. This was a past life regression conducted by London based therapist Lorraine Flaherty. I've since had a transcription made from the audio recording.

My hopes with this session were to address the source of my bouts of clinical depression, and the results were extremely therapeutic. I experienced key moments in what seemed to have been a past life, and a very sad death. There was a distinct change in the quality of my life that began right when I opened my eyes after the session.

This was not a hypnosis session where we tried to retrieve UFO memories. The intent was to explore past lives to help relieve current issues. It was only at the end of the session that Loraine brought up the UFO subject. I have included the transcript of that portion below.

Within the first few minutes of the hypnotic induction, Lorraine asked me if there was anyone else (or any other energy) in the room, I said yes. She brought this up again later in the session, and for the next 25 minutes she asked me questions and I gave my answers. This time was focused on my UFO experiences. Reading this and hearing the audio has been fascinating. I cannot in anyway vouch that what I said is true, but it feels truthful. It may not be a literal truth, but more a metaphoric kind of honesty.

Here is a 35 minute long audio excerpt of the session

the UFO dialog

Lorraine:    While we're here in this space, as you mentioned earlier, there may have been an energy that was currently in your energy field that didn't belong to you. I'm just going to ask for that energy to make themselves known to you now. And as you do that, what are you aware of?

Mike:   I don’t know. Alien?

L:    Does alien have a name?

M:   Quentar.
(Right in the moment I realized how cheezy that sounded)
L:    I want you ask Quentar what is it that he's doing in your energy field?

M:   Guiding.

L:    Where is he from?

M:   From like, somewhere else. Like, not here

L:    And why is it that Quentar is in your energy field guiding you? Why specifically?

M:   It’s something important.

Jeffery Kripal on the mystical human experience

Author Jeffery Kripal just published a book co-written by Whitley Strieber, it's titled The Super Natural. In the quote below Jeff talking about his work with people who tell of anomalous experiences. He is describing what I've encountered many times. He clearly articulates the challenges of trying to make sense of these mysteries while listening to people as they share what has happened to them.

This is the thing about this material, you think you’ve heard the last strange thing, and then it gets stranger. What the debunker thinks is that, no—if we just had enough information it would all make sense and all the strangeness would go away.
But my experience with these folks is exactly the opposite. The more they tell you the weirder it gets. Part of the reason is that they don’t quite trust you in the beginning and so they tell you just sort of the surface of the story. And then they tell you a little more, and a little more. And the more they tell you the stranger it gets. It does not make more sense, it makes less sense. And I think that this is important, I think that is part of the phenomena, that it’s absurd, and that it’s meant to confuse us. And I think that when we look for it to make sense I think we are going down the wrong path. Because it doesn’t.
        —Jeffery Kripal, 2016

an owl dream with Robert Moss

author and dream teacher Robert Moss

I get a lot of emails about owl experiences. A woman recently sent me her dream where an owl shows up. A big owl flies towards her and plops face first into the snow, and the next thing that happens is Robert Moss runs into the scene. He points to the owl ands houts, "It's an owl! It's an owl! It's an owl!"

The email then explained that Robert Moss is an author who writes about dreams and they role in living a deeper life. So a guy who analyzes dream imagery shows up in a dream; he's shouting and pointing to a symbolic owl! (I love this stuff!)

I had never heard of him so I did some quick on-line searching. I found this tidy video (above) that seems to give a good overview of his ideas on dreaming.

I also googled Robert Moss and UFOs, and my own site came up! It was a post from 2014 where a real owl wakes me from a nightmare. More than one of the comments on that post offer up info on Robert Moss. I must have read these at the time, but I didn't remember them. I have amazing readers and their insights were wonderful.
When strangers ask me what I do, I often respond, "I am a storyteller and I help people to find and live their bigger and braver stories, and tell them really well."
—Robert Moss
I've watched a few videos, and read some things from his website, and I sure like the guy and his message. Here's a good podcast where Whitley Strieber talks dreams with Robert.

two books with owl eyes

screen grab from the Amazon page
The amazon page for The Messengers show what books are being bought together through their site. I have been humbled to see that The Super Natural has been side by side with my book since its debut back in February. This book was written by Whitley Strieber and Jeffery Kripal, two people I respect enormously.

More info on The Super Natural HERE

Curiously, both books feature vivid golden owl eyes. Well, there is just one eye on The Super Natural.

required reading
I have had the honor of interviewing both these important authors. Each of these men wrestle with ideas that are barely touched upon within the small pool of UFO researchers. Both conversations are posted below.

Jim Harold talks about owls

graphcis from Jim Harold's site
Jim Harold and I spoke about owls for about 40 minutes, and this conversation is posted on his subscription site. But, I have permission to link it here on my site, so you can hear it for free. Jim hadn't read my book, so I needed to try to convey the complex ideas within those pages in a short amount of time. By the end, I sense he was impressed at what I had worked to explain.

  audio podcast linked HERE

These are challenging ideas, and it's been hard to sum up a nearly 400 page book without a lot of time. This went really well—recommended listening.

still selling well after over half a year

Screen image form the Amazon site
The Messengers has been on sale since December 3rd of 2015, so it's been available for seven months. I need to admit that I check the amazon sales ranking for this book more than I should, it's become a bit obsessive. As of today it was ranked number three in the amazon rankings for kindle UFO books. This is astounding to me. I had no expectations that it would be this popular. Now I fully realize that this is a tiny category and the actual number of books sold is still pretty modest compared to what Steven King might be used to getting, but gee-whiz!

The other two books ahead of this in sales are both discounted prices. Ingo Swann's book was first published in 1998 (with 123 reviews?). Curiously, the books that are usually seen in the top slots are Behold a Pale Horse by William Cooper and Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken.

I've been truly gratified at the sales, as well as the supportive comments and emails I've been receiving. A huge thank you to anyone who has made the effort to dig into this big fat book!

New info added 5:20 PM same day:

Just checked and the owl book is now number TWO on amazon in the UFO category, again behind Ingo Swann's book...

talking owls with Kevin Moore

I talked about owls on the Kevin Moore Youtube site More Talk. This was a curious interview because it was just under and hour. I worried that this is barely enough time to really try to get these complex ideas across to a listener (or viewer in this case). I tried to be suscinct in my answers, not always easy for me. This interview went really well, I shared a lot in our hour together.

talking owls on Where Did The Road Go

podcast series exploring the deepest mysteries
I did two shows, Part ONE and Part TWO with Seriah Azkath on his excellent podcast series Where Did the Road Go. Seriah read the book in its entirety, and asked some excellent questions. This 2-part show totals up to nearly three hours of conversation at the highest level. Highly recommended.

Owls, UFOs and Area 51

Actor and author Tucker Smallwood
The 2011 documentary The Truth is Out There features Dean Haglund (of the X-Files) playing the host and asking questions. There is one point in the film where an actor sits alone on stage and reads from his autobiography. He tells the familiar story of a seeing owls and a UFO.

The man on stage is Tucker Smallwood, a veteran of theater and screen who’s long list of credits include Coppola’s The Cotton Club, Contact and The X-Files. He also played God on the Sara Silverman Show.

Documentary on UFO and consciousness from 2011

Tucker steps on stage at the 15:00 minute mark in the video above.

His account begins in a car full of buddies, all of them UFO enthusiasts. It was February of 1993 and they were driving through the desert at night—heading towards Area 51. Tucker writes:
Suddenly from out of the darkness, a winged figure appeared on my left and flew directly toward my windshield. At the last possible moment, it veered and flew over the roof of my car. It was huge...and I suddenly realized (as my heart retraced its steps) that it must have been an owl, with perhaps a five-foot wingspan. I was now very alert and remained that way.
This is, in many ways, the ancient totem of the owl. Tucker was on a path towards the unknown—seeking. Suddenly he was VERY alert. For me, the owl plays the role of an alarm clock, telling the seeker to wake up and pay attention.

Not long after seeing the owl they arrived atop a mesa just outside the ring of mountains encircling the mythic Area 51. His small team camped out that night on a hilltop within sight of the secret military base. They were hoping to see something that would confirm their suspicions.
I awoke at 3:30 AM and exited the camper...and marveled at the clarity of the high mountain desert sky... I opened up a beach chaise lounge, slipped into a sleeping bag, lay back and surveyed the heavens.

As if on cue, from within the circle of mountains a light slowly rose up and above the peaks...and hung there in the night. THE LIGHT was yellowish-white and its intensity and hue varied with its movement. It was perfectly silent throughout the experience. I cannot say what shape the craft had, I cannot define its size, I cannot assert that it was built by or occupied by a man... or something else. It was, for me, simply THE LIGHT.
He goes on to describe the strange motions of this light in the sky. It seemed to float graceful and leisurely. Then he watched the commonly reported falling leaf movements as this light arched side to side like a heavy pendulum. He wrote that seeing this light, “...forever changed my belief systems.”

The next night was cold and clear. Once again he took up vigil in his sleeping bag, looking up at the ocean of stars.
As I lay back remembering the names of the sharply defined constellations above, the sky was suddenly blotted out—the stars disappeared! And as I rose in fear, the sky reappeared, and I defined the shape (like a huge manta ray, cruising along the ocean floor) of a gliding, hunting owl. He'd passed perhaps five feet over my head and I watched him as he flew, ‘nap of the earth’ along the desert floor...and disappeared into the night.

Now, I'd seen zero owls in forty years...and within twenty-four hours, I'd had close encounters with two. Presumably different owls — but who knows? As much as I enjoyed the coincidence, I thought little about it for some time thereafter. Until in my reading (which was prodigious afterwards, dozens of books) I discovered Jung's description of what are called ‘screen memories.’ They arc a protective device of our minds when faced with anomalous or upsetting events. And apparently, for whatever reason, owls tend to be a rather common screen memory, particularly for other entities. But what they represented to me, I have yet to recall.
Tucker Smallwood begins a journey, he wants to see a UFO. He was seeking on the path (a lonely highway in Nevada) when he sees an owl, and is suddenly VERY alert. He has a golden UFO sighting that changes his belief systems. The next night an owl blots out the stars. He then ask deeply personal questions of himself and his place in this reality.

2006 autobiography
Maybe I am reading too much into this, but both his experiences and reactions, parallel the core of my research. On the surface, there is an odd connection between owl and UFOs. But there is a deeper connection, one of personal transformation.

These excerpts are from Tucker’s book Return to Eden. They come from the short chapter titled Dreamland, which begins on page 111, a prescient number indeed! His book was published on my 44th birthday, August 22, 2006. This is the year I point to as the start of my awakening.

Tucker makes this enticing statement in the foreword of his book:
I’ve been told that the four words ‘once upon a time’, when read or heard create an altered state of consciousness. Let’s see.
Now that’s somethin' I can get behind!

Colin Andrews and an owl

author and researcher Colin Andrews and Banshee
Here is an excerpt from The Messengers (p.147):
I’ve asked many crop circle researchers the same question I ask everyone else—if they have had any odd owl experiences. Very few have any stories to tell. I asked this question of pioneering crop circle researcher Colin Andrews, and I was disappointed when he told me no, he’d never had any unusual owl experiences, nor did he recall any from his research. This surprised me, because I see the landscape of Wiltshire County, the focal point of so many powerful crop circles, as being outright magical.
Well, there's an update to this story. Colin now has a close friendship with an owl. Here's what he recently wrote:
Mike mentions in his new book The Messengers that he was disappointed and surprised to hear that I had not heard of any Owl experiences from people had around the crop circles. Not until my amazing connection with ‘Banshee’ the Barn Owl could I personally have much of anything to say to Mike about my personal experiences.

I do now question the sense I have that there could be more in the Owl heart connection than I had appreciated. The connection is obviously personal but it’s of a kind I can’t describe but it is deeply profound, sincere and almost overwhelming. While one knows that a bird like Banshee could cause serious damage, one is literally tugged to smooth or kiss this incredible creature. Having an open mind and knowing we have so much still to learn and experience from nature, I am open to wondering if these birds have more going on than meets Those Eyes. If the emotion one feels is a message, it’s ‘LOVE’.
Colin's emotional owl experience happened near his home Connecticut at A Place Called Hope. This is a raptor rescue center run by his friends Christine Cummings and Todd Secki

Another fascinating bit to this story is that Colin has had abduction experiences, something that he first shared publicly in 2011. The fact that the man who coined the term crop circle has also had life-long interactions with elusive non-human entities doesn't surprise me in the least. This same man now tells of a "...deep inner enjoyment and attachment of the owl with me and many of my family. Not being funny here but I feel a deep, real tangible love for Banshee."

Colin wrote about his experiences of floating into the light—linked HERE. And here is a very telling account of his parents and brother where they saw a disc shaped object hovering about 100 feet off the ground—linked HERE.

Tim Binnall talks owls

I spent two and a half hours in conversation on one of my favorite podcasts, Binnall of America. The host Tim Binnall asked good questions and wouldn't let me off with simplistic answers. Recommended listening!

And—here is an owl-rific blog post from Regan Lee that features owl photos from Tim himself (see above). Regan was my guest way back in 2010. This was a great talk and worth a re-visiting. And here is an article about OWLS on the Binnall of America site written by Regan Lee. (linked HERE)
